By default, each deployment updates the webroot on the filesystem for one or more servers.
We run a networked filesystem across multiple servers. In Silverstripe, user uploads
are stored in the
assets/ folder, where the webserver has write access.
Some files are not stored as part of your codebase, but persist across deployments.

If you need additional directories to persist across deployments (e.g. for custom filesystem caches or sandboxed upload directories), this can be configured via .platform.yml.
In Silverstripe CMS 3, securing assets is done through the
